New findings Simeon Köhl, relative (1760-1829).
Peter Köhl, the first son of Simeon and Lucia, was the only surviving child from his first marriage. After the death of his mother in 1792, Peter seems to have moved in with his uncle, Peter Meisser. Peter Meisser lived in Pontressina from 1790 and Peter probably lived in Pontresina with his uncle for a long time. It is therefore no coincidence that Peter married Agnes Stuppaun from Pontresina as a young man and lived in Pontresina afterwards.
Also to his daughter, Anna Köhl, I could discover much new. Read more under more.
New findings about the family of the emigrant Peter Köhl
I was able to find the place of residence of the family of Nepomuk Merz in the purchase records of the city of Chur. This shows that Peter Köhl, who emigrated to Indianapolias in 1866, spent his youth at Bärloch 11. This and more pictures under Peter Köhl (1842-†1890) - The Emigrant
Grave monuments Daleu Cemetery
During a visit to the Daleu cemetery I unexpectedly came across several grave monuments dedicated to family members of the Köhls of Rogister. I have collected pictures as well as further details about the mentioned persons here in this new post: The Daleu Cemetery and the Köhl Monuments.
Another family member of carpenter Christian Köhl discovered.
On a picture from 1916, taken on the Luzisteig, I could now assign another member of the family of the carpenter Christian Köhl. This is Maria Elisabeth Rungger, daughter of Anna Köhl and Anton Runnger. Also to this family new details could be discovered. These can be read in the biography of Christian Köhl-Riedi (1837-†1922).
Contacting the Bruesch family USA
From the USA a descendant of the Bruesch family contacted me. Her mother had written an extensive book on the Bruesch family history in 1992. One of the ancestors, Johannes Brüesch from Jennins, had married Anna Köhl, the daughter of the relative Simeon Köhl, in 1825 and had fathered numerous descendants with him. After the bankruptcy of the blacksmith Simeon Köhl, he then took in his eldest daughter Anna and then took care of her. Several children of Anna Köhl-Bruesch then emigrated to the USA and had many descendants there. I have already evaluated the new information and was able to create a fairly comprehensive history for the period 1800-1860. After that there are still many gaps which I have to close first.
So the Bruesch's in the USA are relatives 4/5 degrees with us. They were very surprised and pleased to learn that they still have relatives in Switzerland...
Here already part 1 of the history of Anna Köhl-Bruesch (1801-1870)
